2025 USPMGA U.S. Open – Official Rules & Course Guidelines

The 2025 USPMGA U.S. Open at Tin Cup Grill is almost here! As we prepare for competition, please review the official USPMGA rules, which will apply throughout the event:

In addition to national rules, the following course-specific rules will be enforced during tournament play at Tin Cup Grill:

Course-Specific Rules for Tin Cup Grill:

1. Ball Out of Bounds
If a ball is struck and leaves the playing surface (out of bounds), the player will receive a one-stroke penalty. The ball must be placed back onto the fairway (not the rough) at the point where it exited the lane.
Players are encouraged to be attentive within their groups to help ensure all rules are followed consistently and fairly.

2. Obstructed Lie / Drain Relief
If a ball comes to rest against a rail, rock, or other permanent course feature, it may be moved up to one scorecard length (no closer to the hole) without penalty.
If a ball settles inside of a drain, the player may move it one scorecard length left or right, out of the drain and no closer to the hole, with no penalty.

3. Putting Motion & ‘Gimmies’
All strokes must be made using a conventional two-hand grip putting motion.
There are no gimmies in this tournament. Every putt must be holed out for the score to count, regardless of distance.

4. One Ball Per Round
Players must use the same ball throughout each round unless it becomes lost or damaged. Any replacement must be approved by a tournament official.
The USPMGA-approved tournament ball is the Chromax M5. Any color variety of the Chromax M5 is acceptable for use during the tournament.

5. Pace of Play
Tin Cup Grill is a large-format course, and completing each round will require time and patience. We urge all players to be reasonable, prudent, and respectful of others competing in the tournament.
Players and groups are expected to keep and maintain pace of play at all times.

If a player or group is found to be disrupting the flow of play:

  • A warning will be issued.

  • Continued delays may result in the group being placed on the clock.

  • If delays persist, the tournament committee reserves the right to issue stroke penalties.

Please note: The goal of this rule is not to be punitive, but to ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all competitors.

6. Marking & Cleaning the Ball / Putter
Due to the sand-based surface of Tin Cup Grill, players may choose to clean their ball before any stroke if sand has accumulated on it.
To do so, the player must:

  • Use a ball marker (coin, poker chip, or any standard marker) to mark the ball’s position.

  • Lift and clean the ball.

  • Replace it in the exact marked location before continuing play.

Players may also clean their putter during play as needed, as long as it does not delay the group.

7. Tee Box Placement
Each hole begins from the designated tee box, defined as follows:

  • The width of the tee box extends between the outside edges of the two yellow dots located at the start of each lane.

  • The depth of the tee box extends from the front edge of the yellow dots backward to where the lane meets the rough.

  • If a player chooses to tee off from a position where the ball is touching a yellow dot, the bottom of the ball must be in contact with the yellow dot.

8. Stroke Limit Per Hole
This tournament will observe a maximum of 7 strokes per hole.
If a player has attempted 6 strokes and has not yet holed the ball, a seventh stroke is not necessary—the player will be scored a 7 for that hole automatically.
This helps keep rounds moving efficiently and consistently across the course.

Please take time to review and understand both the USPMGA official rules and these Tin Cup Grill-specific rules before tournament play begins. Clear expectations help ensure a fair, smooth, and professional event for all.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to Cumming, Georgia for an exciting and memorable U.S. Open!
